More Information on the CCA

For the past years, Malay Dance did traditional item for almost every performance. But from 2013 onwards, we decided to try something new and did a contemporary item. The first contemporary item that we put out this year was during Chinese New Year concert. Since it is a contemporary dance, it was very tiring for most of us. We need to be aggressive for most of the time but we still have to be graceful when necessary.

We also had a camp in school during the March term break. This camp consists of “Get together”, where we play games and get to know each other better. Then, we cooked dinner for ourselves with the help of both of our teachers-in-charge. After dinner, we had a long training session with our instructor, Mr Arif. Through this session, we learnt about the history and origin of every genre of Malay Dance. We also had a competition among ourselves the next day. We were divided into four groups and we have to choreograph our own dance items using the knowledge that Mr Arif had taught us during the session previously. It was very fun and interesting as we are allowed to show off our talents and learnt creativity from each other.

We participated in the “Juara Tari Competition 2014” on June 7 organised by Cairnhill MAEC at Henderson Community Centre. We faced tough competition from other schools that came up with their own interpretation and choreography for the same competition song. Through this competition, we have learnt that mastering our dance technique is very important and we do not dance alone but as a team.
